If you’ve never tried grilled fruit, wow you don’t know the deliciousness you’re missing!
Grilling your fruit whether as a tasty appetizer, a sweet & savory side dish or a special dessert is an excellent way to use seasonal fruits and the hot grill to wow your family and friends.
Tips for Grilled Fruits
Use ALMOST Ripe Fruit
Use fruit that is almost ripe, like a day or two before you might eat it fresh raw. The fruit will be firmer and will hold together over the heat better, and the natural sugars in the fruit will be drawn out and caramelized which will sweeten and soften over the heat.
Bigger Is Better
Cut your fruit to larger chunks. This keeps the fruits from falling between the grates and the fruit pieces will hold together better on the kebab skewers.
Leave The Skin On
Leaving the skin on your fruit slices or chunks gives the fruit extra strength to hold together better as it heats up over the flames and softens. Peaches, Plums, Apricots, Apples, even Banana sliced with the skin on cook up deliciously over the open flame!
Do Not Disturb
It’s best to not flip fruit often while cooking, just one time and usually 3 minutes per side provides a good amount of time to carmalize the natural sugars, soften the fruit and gain nice charred grill marks with most all fruits.
Skewer Twice, Flip Once
If your fruits allow, use 2 skewers for kebabs to keep them more secure and from spinning. Also it’s best to only flip your fruits one time. Grill for 2-3 minutes each side, flip once, and should end up perfect!
