A few of us around here LOVE vintage cookbooks and getting creative with retro recipes!! We found this old cookbook on Grandma Pats shelf and whipped up our version of a classic meatloaf recipe we found in her 1973 St Louis Moolah Shriners Charity Cookbook that had the most surprisingly delicious red sauce topping .
This would also be an easy Sunday dinner that gives you Monday leftovers!! (And needless to say but it was so yummy we forgot to take finished pics before we ate it all!!!)
Moolah Meatloaf
2# ground beef (not too lean, you want some of the juiciness in a more fatty beef to keep it moist!)
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup green pepper
2 tbsp parsley *
2 tbsp marjoram leaves *
1 tsp garlic *
1 tsp sea salt *
1 tsp black pepper *
2 tbsp prepared mustard
2 eggs lightly beaten
1/3 cup milk
(* you can also substitute all the above items with an * for our deliciously easy Meatloaf Seasoning !!)
Piquant Sauce Topping
3 tbsp brown sugar
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tbsp prepared mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Mix all the meat loaf ingredients well. Grease a 9×13 baking dish .
Shape the meat mixture into a desired loaf shape.
Mix all the Piquant Sauce topping ingredients well and then top meat loaf with mixture.
Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes, let stand 5 minutes before serving.
Enjoy!
