Homemade bread in a crockpot? Yes, no kidding! We too were surprised how easy and delicious it was to use a slow cooker method for ‘baking’ a fresh loaf . The magic of the super moist loaf is due to the steaming process and by following a few easy tips, you too will amaze your family with this homemade bread recipe.
Slow-cooker Rosemary Bread
1 1/4 cups warm water
1 tsp sugar
1 pkg yeast
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp Rosemary Garlic Seasoning**
Approx. 3 cups flour
Pour water into a bowl and mix in yeast & sugar.
Wait approx. 5 minutes, or until it begins to bubble, then add in olive oil and Rosemary Garlic Seasoning.
Gradually begin to add flour until able to knead.
Knead for 10 minutes, adding a dusting of flour as needed.
Line the crockpot with parchment paper, place the dough inside, cover the pot with a clean dry dish towel and place on lid. (the dish towel will catch the moisture droplets that form on the inside of the lid and will prevent the droplets from dropping onto the loaf) Set the temperature to medium setting and let dough rise approx. 30 minutes until double in size.
Remove dough, knead for another 5 minutes, return dough to parchment lined crock, replace the towel & lid and cook on high for 1 1/2-2 hours, or until center is 190 – 200 degrees. Rest for 5 min. before cutting.
** if you prefer a traditional white loaf, simply substitute the 2 tbsp. of Rosemary Garlic Seasoning for 1 tsp of salt.
*** The loaf will have a pale appearance, should you prefer it a lid more brown, when done cooking in crock pot pop the loaf into a 500 degree standard oven for 3-5 minutes or till desired brownness is reached.
